Chevy: Introduces C7, the first Corvette Where the standard model does 0-60 in under 4 seconds with one of the best interiors for a sub-$100k car on the market.
Auto-Journos and haters: Well at least it doesn’t have quite as BAD of an interior any more...
Chevy: Introduces the Z06, one of less than 5 RWD cars in the world that can do 0-60 in under 3 seconds.
Auto-Journos and haters: Yeah, but how much faster would it be with AWD, bro?
Chevy: Introduces the Grand Sport, made up of Z06 add ons with the standard engine under hood. The GS proceeds to wreck every car that isn’t a track-day special around VIR.
Auto-Journos and haters: Yeah, but the engine sits up front like some sort of normal car. So it must be bad and slow and stupid.
Chevy: Drops spy shots of the ZR1.
Auto-Journos and critics: *crickets*
Me: *breathing intensifies*

Hmm. The first two I’ll agree with, but most of what I’ve read about the GS has been overwhelmingly positive. Maybe I need to read more reviews, lol.

“One of the best interiors of any sub $100k cars on the market.”
It’s a huge step up, but that statement is an equally huge stretch.

The reviews of the GS aren’t bad, but they were overshadowed by that rear-mid engine mule.

The interior us average, at best. But I can dig everything else here.

My only complaint about the C7 in general is how short the shifter throws are. Shits too tight for my liking.

Yeah, I’m with the others regarding the interior.
I rented a C7 in Houston, and while the interior has a very cool look and layout, the majority of materials are still pretty cheap feeling “soft touch” plastic.
(I’ve been a Vette fan for many years)

We must be reading different reviews. With the exception of cooling issues for track days, seems to me like all iterations of this generation have been pretty well loved. Rightfully so too.

The interior is not superlative as you say. More like it’s halfway decent enough that it’s no longer a complete and utter embarrassment given its price point. But that’s not saying much since the C5 interior is dogshit and the C6 interior is barely passable for a rental car. There are plenty of interiors in cheaper cars that are much nicer than the C7. Like for example the starts-at-$40k Mercedes C-Class.

I still want it to face the 911R and V12 Vantage 6MT.

The Z06 has been panned because it’s shit. It doesn’t handle well, and that’s what a Z06 was for. On top of that huge issue, is it overheats rather easily.
I have yet to see a bad review of the GS.

My C5Z is still my favorite of 35 cars I have owned. I never minded the interior at all. It may not have been the highest quality of materials, but every damn thing you wanted was exactly where it needed to be. I never had the squeaks and rattles, but I make an informed assumption that it was the hardtop vs. targa to blame. God, I miss that car. It was my second ‘Vette. I will have a C7.

“Auto-Journos” have been overwhelmingly positive of the C7 generation. It’s won tons of comparisons and awards.

I think it’s pretty funny that in those spy shots, the only thing not covered by camo is the bright red side mirrors. Clearly intentional!

Wow, now you’re asking for a reach back into the wayback machine! I’m kinda older than digital cameras at this point, so I don’t have lots of pictures from the before times. Let me see if I can write that up...

Yes, much nicer materials quality like milled aluminum speaker grilles and whatnot.
Here’s a C7 GS interior with the full leather dash package:
Seems like a perfectly nice enough place to be but I wouldn’t say this is an excellent interior. There’s still a huge sweep of not-very-premium looking hard plastic on the whole surface that faces the driver from the vent to the left of the gauges down through the shifter surround.
I can honestly say that it doesn’t seem appreciably nicer than this here loaded Honda Civic.
That’s not a knock against the Corvette, more that Honda threw a lot of nice materials in the new Civic.
My point is, the C7 interior is now totally fine and good but it is far from “one of the best interiors for a sub-$100k car.”
(Make sure you’re expanding to the full high-res images.)

You say “nicer materials” a lot, but not that it’s actually a nicer place to be. I mean, that Merc interior with the glued on tablet right in the LOS? FTN, it will lose my interest in a car every time with that BS. Overall, it’s just not that attractive to me. It’s very sterile, and then there’s the tablet. Fake wood is fake wood, whether it’s on a Hyundai or a Merc, so there’s that.
As for the Civic, they’re nice, for sure, but not nicer. However, I will be the first to say that I’m a function and usability over pretty materials any day.

I picked the C-class because it is a car that has much fancier stuff inside than the C7, including real ash wood trim. My point was about the materials quality, not the function.
My point about the Civic is that interior which looks at least in the same decent-ness ballpark as the C7, and it’s in a $25k (fully loaded) car.
Even though MB is far from the only tacked-on tablet offender nowadays, here are some nicer-than-C7 interiors with no wood (real or otherwise) trim, and no tacked-on tablets.
Again, I’m not saying the C7 interior is bad , just that it’s not that special and certainly doesn’t live up to the claim in the original post that it’s one of the best sub-$100k interiors out there.

Any photos welcome, but not required! An old coworker and friend of mine just picked up a C5Z recently, and seems to be loving it. Took it to the track the day after he bought it - haha! I’m 38, but hold onto my cars a pretty long time, generally. I’ve only owned 6 so far!
‘86 Camry
‘88 Acura Legend (great car)
‘91 Accord
(back in the Legend for a few years)
‘05 Mazda 3s hatch (bought new - fun little car)
‘08 E90 M3 (current - driven most days)
‘03 Pathfinder 4x4 (current “beater”)
All manuals except the Pathfinder. Bought the M3 in the summer of ‘12, so I’m at 4.5 years and not looking to part with it any time soon. Would like to pair with something lighter, lower & raw-er...
Wife’s daily & our family/trip car (since we’ve been married):
‘01 Nissan Xterra (bought new, drove 90k miles)
‘08 Mazda CX-9 (bought new, drove 190k miles)
‘14 Acura MDX (bought this year - hopefully we’ll take it past 250k!)

I would say it’s definitely one of the best sub-$100k sports car interiors.
You’re mostly calling out to luxobarges, which trade off money in performance for interior comforts, I guess. The ‘Vette has always made performance king, interior luxury a distant second. It’s all about priorities, but I see your point.
